11:09 am - silly?
I read somewhere on the internet that they're erasing livejournals that have been inactive for 2 years...not sure if it's true, but I definitely don't want to lose this journal, so I'm posting! :) See? Look at me, wheeeee, I'm posting!! ^^

This journal is an important snapshot of a happy/sad/strange time in my life. I'll be re-reading it today...I wonder what me from seven years ago will have to say?

Hugs! :)

2:18 am - show diary
The November 8th performance was fantastic. We sold out the Tin Angel! :D And I think everyone really enjoyed themselves; the audience seemed really engrossed in what was going on onstage, which was absolutely invigorating. In fact, I had a moment of magic during the second verse of Snow Hymn.

You see, even at the politest and most genteel of listening establishments, there is usually light conversation or whispering going on at any given time during a performance. (Which is perfectly acceptable, of course; I do it when I attend concerts, too. :)) However, while quietly murmuring "there's no need to cry" into the microphone during Snow Hymn on the evening of the 8th, I realized that the ONLY sounds in the room were my voice, and the tinkling of the piano -- otherwise, you could have heard a pin drop! It was such a powerful experience; holding that many peoples' undivided attention at once is almost dizzying. But amazing!! <3

Then, last evening, I performed at Andrea Clearfield's salon with violinist Michelle Bishop (she ROCKS!), and had an absolutely fabulous time. We were the final act, and performed both "Doctrines" and "How Should I Your True Love Know", which were both recieved very well. The latter is really starting to become a crowd favorite; everyone seems to love doing the handclaps! :D

Afterwards a number of lovely people came up to compliment us on the performance, and I met some wonderful folks! Some even asked if I had any CDs to sell, but unfortunately I'd forgotten them at home while rushing around to get ready. Agh, sometimes I'm such an airhead. x.x

More fun stuff coming up...we're playing the PHILADELPHIA MUSEUM OF ART!!! on February 2nd (rock band and string quartet). And I'm firming up some additional dates for early 2007...will keep you posted! :)

Now, if I can just figure out a way to not have to work at a mall anymore. ;_;

Hugs,
Mary

You know, this journal has turned into little more than private entries about strange dreams I chance to have when not plagued by insomnia. But I should really be writing down the things that happen to me; shouldn't I? I think...that maybe...I should.

Last evening was the full band rehearsal for the Tin Angel show. Everything sounded marvelous; Michelle and Hannah of Arts in Motion will be joining us on violin for this show, which is really quite exciting. I am really looking forward to Wednesday night! :)

By the way, tickets may still be had, so if you've not yet any plans for the 8th of November, do stop by! :) HERE is complete info.

I also have a couple of very exciting things in the works, which I will write about soon...but for now, they are just wisps of ideas milling about in my brain. :x

Til then, darlings!

First they say there's no Pluto...now there's no LIMBO?

I feel like they should have talked to Dante first; you'd think he would have to write off on something like that.

Yesterday was the "big" rehearsal with Arts in Motion for the Art Museum Show this Friday -- six hours long! But the minutes flew by and I had an excellent time. Everything sounds fabulous; I was especially moved by the quartet's rendition of the string intro to Snow Hymn; it was performed absolutely beautifully and perfectly, right down to the last nuance. And the new remixes are incredible, especially the Bach in Gm and Chopin in Cm. I am so lucky to be working with such talented people! :)

That show is on Friday at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, by the way -- if you're in the area, you should go! Here are all the details.

Monday was Box Five rehearsal; worked on solidifying the backing vocals for Killjoy and attempted a couple of covers for fun, including a song by a band called Keane which is really...quite...keen! :)

Practice with Nicki tonight; I want to go over all of these songs before we meet up, so let me go do that now!

Hugz,
M

All music, all the time:

Rehearsed with Nicki on Friday, joined by a Mr. Ned Sonstein on drums. We had lots of fun adding to Nicki's solo tunes; everything came out with a sort of Dresden Dolls-type feel, which I quite enjoyed -- I love mashing down on the keys!! : D

Saturday spent in the company of Ms. TATIANA ZWERLING, one of the coolest chicks alive, who was making a brief appearance in Philly before heading off to the Sunshine State to pursue her MBA. (Tot, I miss you already!!) I also got to see good old Emory Krall, who is still designing fun and fancy gadgets, including these really neat magnetic salt-and-pepper shakers which were featured in the display window in one of the shops we passed!

Jammed with Nicki again tonight, along with a didgeridoo player (!) by the name of Mark. I played bells for once, which I am really starting to enjoy; I think I'll try to work glockenspiel parts into a couple Box Five songs if I can manage it...

The rest of week:
Monday: work during the day, box five rehearsal at night
Tuesday: all day rehearsal with arts in motion
Wednesday: rehearsal with nicki and ned at night
Thursday: rehearsal with box five at night
Friday: art museum show!!
Saturday: sleep?

A presto!

I never write in here anymore. I am a bad friend. Bad Mary!!! :(

I've been suuuuuuuuper busyyyyyyy, mainly with music stuff and I LOVE EVERY FREAKING MINUTE OF IT. In rehearsal for our Bryn Mawr show April 8th. Working with Arts in Motion for the premiere of my art song on April 22nd. Planning to release some new music from the studio soon too...online...for free. :D Yaaaaay!

Also, responded to an ad on musicians' craiglist and now I am part of an AMAZING vocal trio called "Birth of Venus". It's sort of a side project for all of us, and we're having SO much fun with it. Teri Rambo and Alex Day are the other two lovely ladies in the group, and they sing like angels! We're rehearsing everything from traditional folk tunes to jazzy 30s numbers, and our first mini-gig is on April 3rd (we'll be performing 2 songs with Alex's jazz band that evening). Fun fun fun, you should go! :D

Today I went downtown to House Productions (the greatest salon of all time), and Betsy gave me the coolest haircut ever. It's this awesome crazy asymmetrical psuedo-mullet -- i LOVE it!! I feel like Karen O!

I wish I had a camera, I could show you how cool it looks :( I could also show you that I pierced my nose! (A week or so ago, just a little tiny sparkly jewel thingy.)

I have NO CLOTHES, so I also bought five shirts today and I am probably broke til next Friday. But oh well, now I have sexy new hair and sexy new clothes! I danced around for like two hours tonight in my new outfits playing guitar in front of the mirror, and pretending that the mirror was thousands of people. Me = LAME. :D

That's all for now, talk to you soon!

Hugs,
Mary
